OUR STORY

When a Buried Seed Broke

Through the Darkness

Overflow began long before it had a name.

In September 2022, I said yes to God when He asked me to offer to speak at a few churches and ministries. When three people said yes, I was stunned. This was God's plan. What I didn’t realize at the time was that something long buried was breaking through the darkness.

It was like a seed that had been planted years earlier, then buried by loss, disappointment, and seasons of silence. When I said yes, that seed broke the surface.

God brought me back to what I call “the place of death,” a place I never thought I would stand in again. And there, the resurrection power of Jesus Christ restored something I believed was finished. Those speaking invitations weren’t a launch; they were healing. God was dusting off cobwebs, restoring confidence, and reminding me that I still carried the gift of delivering His message.

I thought I was done, but God was just beginning.

Encouragement That Watered

What God Had Planted

Shortly after that season of obedience, Becky began sending me daily devotional encouragements. They were consistent, Scripture-rooted, and timely. What I didn’t see right away was that God was using her obedience to water what He had just allowed to sprout.

At the same time, I felt the Holy Spirit stirring within me, and I tried to quiet Him. But the Holy Spirit and Becky are a powerful team. She didn’t stop, and neither did He.

What I later recognized was this: God had planted the seed through obedience, and He was using encouragement to strengthen its roots.

A Night That Changed Everything

Then came a long night drive to the funeral of a dear college friend, my maid of honor, who had died suddenly, just weeks after her birthday. We were the same age. Grief was heavy. Questions were loud.

As darkness settled in, fog rolled across the highway. Traffic came to a standstill. I found myself sliding on black ice, praying, and calling out the Name of Jesus as a semi slide along side of me.

“Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.”

In that moment, God had my full attention. He began connecting the Scriptures I had been reading with the encouragements Becky had been sending. In the stillness,  surrounded by danger and fully aware of my dependence, I told God plainly that I would not do this alone. I don’t believe in Lone Rangers. Where would I find a team?

The Argument

That Led to the Assignment

That’s when the Holy Spirit told me to approach Becky about hosting a women’s conference.

And that’s when I argued. Not because I didn’t believe God, but because I didn’t know her. Becky didn’t attend our church. We had no ongoing relationship. We had crossed paths only twice at church events hosted by other churches, and months earlier had been briefly introduced over the phone by a mutual friend.

What would I tell our people? Our women?

God wasn’t just asking me to trust Him spiritually; He was asking me to trust Him relationally.

As I drove, the Holy Spirit didn’t simply give me an idea. He downloaded the assignment, the title, the sessions, the Scriptures, and the points. It was clear. Specific. Undeniable.

Only later would I realize that the name He gave it, The Overflow is Coming, perfectly described what He had been doing all along.

A Conference Born in Three Weeks

When I got home, I called Becky.

She didn’t rush in. She told me she would help if I could find a place. After multiple calls, only one conference center within two hours had availability, and it was in three weeks.

I looked out my window and saw that Sarah was in the church office. I ran over to ask her what she knew of this conference center. She had connections, made a phone call, and within minutes, we were on the road to check it out.

Once the location was secured, Becky stepped forward, trusting God more than she trusted me. She often laughs now, telling people she agreed to help a woman she barely knew and initially thought was a little crazy.

That first overnight conference in February 2023 was small, but it was holy.

Hearts were strengthened. Faith was stirred.

Fruit That Required Stewardship

When the conference ended, several women said, “We want to do this again next year.” However, I was not on board.

God hadn’t said that, and I wasn't about to run ahead of Him or do something He wasn't involved with. I had told the women everything would be prayed through, so I took it to God. I told Him I didn’t want to lose momentum, but I also didn’t want to build something He hadn’t asked for.

God gave clear direction instead of an annual conference, He led me to once-a-month Saturday Overflow Gatherings, and we were to offer our conference to other churches. But I still wasn't in. Where would I get the leaders to facilitate such a vision?

When God Built

the Second Branch

I told God I would not move forward without a committed leadership team. I asked for at least five women, but I petitioned Him for eight.

When I approached the women who had attended the conference, nine committed. That’s when the second branch of Overflow was born.

The monthly Gatherings became a place where women grew spiritually, encouraged one another, stepped into leadership, and prioritized gathering with God’s people. Women began traveling from surrounding towns to attend. Becky herself grew through the teaching, alongside the other leaders, and we watched boldness and faith multiply.

Today, Overflow is abundantly blessed with thirteen leaders, plus me, women loyal to God, faithful to one another, and committed to equipping others to serve Him in everyday life.

Loyal Hearts and Lasting Fruit

God is looking to and for a heart that is loyal to Him.

I found that heart in Becky, and in the women God continues to gather.

Overflow was not built on familiarity, strategy, or convenience. It was born from obedience, strengthened through encouragement, and sustained by listening when God speaks.

What began as a buried seed has grown, and by God’s design, it continues to Overflow.

Born from obedience.

Built in community.
